Arts Education Strategy

In 2011 arts education becomes an official part of the AzCA/AA advocacy strategy. The Arizona Arts Census has played a crucial role in determining how we can best be effective on a public policy level with regard to arts education.

Arts Education Talking Points
  • At the state level, AZAA will support efforts to support and advance the Arizona arts education standards as a core component in a K-12 education system that promotes excellence and competitiveness for our state.
  • Locally, AZAA will identify and develop local arts advocates who will promote teaching to the arts standards as a priority to parent organizations, teachers and school boards.
  • AZAA will support community arts education programs delivered by Arizona arts and culture organizations and teaching artists, to build strong, systemic arts education programs for students throughout our state.
  • AZAA will support the efforts of the Arizona Commission on the Arts to expand opportunities for Arizona youth to participate in and experience the arts, and to deliver Arizona arts education programs, grants, resources and services to educators, teaching artists and administrators, in both school and out of school settings.
  • As Arts Education Advocates, AzCA/AA recommends that you engage at all levels of government:

    State Legislature

  • Share the Arizona Arts Education Census with your Senator and Representatives
  • Share with your Legislators a real life example of how arts educaiton has impacted your life and your family
  • School Boards

  • Regularly attend School Board Meetings
  • Invite sitting Board members to arts education events or a community meeting
  • Run for a School Board position and support arts education funding in your schools in parity with other core academic subjects
  • As we official engage arts education on the policy level it is more important than ever for you, the arts education advocate, to work in your communities for arts education. Go to the Arts Education Discussion boards to see how others are working to advocate for arts education in your community.
